SASHA, the St. Albert Sturgeon Hospice Association, was established in 2013 with the goal "to support, educate and empower those who are affected by or caring for a person with a life-limiting illness in our community".

Our Objective

Our primary objective, at the outset, was to work with local leaders in government and health care to create a residential hospice space in St. Albert.  We are thankful that this objective was reached in January 2016, with the opening of ten hospice beds in Foyer Lacombe. (See the St. Albert Gazette, dated May 06, 2017, for an article on SASHA!)

Now that the objective of established hospice has been achieved, our attention is focused on providing support in our community.  To that end, we organized CONNECT Cafes, to be held twice per year. The Cafes were initiated on June 13, 2017.  The purpose of these Cafes is to provide an opportunity for people in the end stages of life and their caregivers to come together in a relaxing environment to learn from experts, share stories, and obtain support.

The Connect Café

Connect Café is a reflection of our vision. We are committed to providing opportunities for members of the community to gather for presentations on a variety of topics such as end-of-life decision making, available palliative supports in the community, and how to discuss your medical wishes with your loved ones. The Cafes are hosted in a format that promotes creating connections for support education and advocacy. As friends of the Foyer Lacombe Hospice, they have kindly allowed us to host our Cafes' in 2019 in their chapel and we have been invited to host in the community as an alternative as well.  Details and location will be upated for events.
