Compassionate Care Volunteer Program

How Can Our Volunteers Help You?

Companionship

Nearing end of life can be lonely and isolating.  Companionship connects adults through mind, body, and soul and is the perfect recipe to ease social isolation, improve quality of life and support greater independence.

With the goal of living life to its fullest in the presence of illness, a trained volunteer will be matched with you to support you with activities and hobbies that you enjoy either in your home or in the community. Some examples include reading, baking, and writing your memoirs.

Respite For Caregivers

Supporting a loved one as they near death can be difficult emotionally, physically, and socially. Caregiving is important, so providing personal time and space for a caregiver through respite is a service our volunteers offer.

Community Connections

The volunteers can provide information resources, as requested, to improve community connections for both clients and caregivers.

Please note: Our volunteers do not provide personal care; such as, bathing, dressing, medication management, and home cleaning.

How Our Program Works

An initial home assessment is done, and then a volunteer is matched based on your needs. From there, you and your volunteer decide what will best serve your needs.

Getting Started

The first step, and often the most difficult, is reaching out.

Call 587-921-1345 or email: info@sashacares.com and a member of our Compassionate Care Volunteer Program would be happy to speak with you.

BECOME A COMPASSIONATE CARE VOLUNTEER

Our Compassionate Care volunteers have an important role in supporting the quality of life for those living in the community with an end-of-life diagnosis in their home setting.  The volunteer application process is designed to ensure that volunteers are a good fit for the program, protect vulnerable clients and meet the legal requirements for volunteers in Alberta.  Upon completion of filling in and submitting an application form, applicants go through an interview process with SASHA’s Volunteer Coordinator.  Volunteers are asked to provide references which are then checked Volunteers are also screened through an RCMP Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check.  All volunteers regularly participate in ongoing training and support.
