Compassion Bags Project
SASHA’s goal is to support, educate and empower those who are affected by or are caring for a person with a life-limiting illness in our community.
One of the ways we are doing this is in the giving of our Compassion Bags. This project came about during the pandemic as SASHA was not able to meet our clients in person. We believed it was very important that these clients knew that they were not forgotten and abandoned by the community. The first bags were distributed in December of 2020.
The Compassion Bags are now being given to the hospice patients at Foyer Lacombe when they are admitted to the unit and also through Home Care, to community end-of-life clients who meet the requirements of benefitting from receiving one of these bags.
Our Compassion Bags, assembled by our volunteers, show caring and support from the community. The Compassion Bags contain items for both the person who is ill and their caregiver. Items include a handmade lap quilt, neck support, socks, notepad, puzzle books, teddy bear, personal items, snacks and much more.
We would like to thank the St. Albert Community Foundation for their generous grant and Shoppers Drug Mart’s generous donation through their Love You campaign which gave us the kickstart for this exciting initiative. Other businesses have stepped forward to donate much-needed items.
