The work of SASHA continued throughout Summer 2014. During the St Albert Farmers Market and from various locations across our community, SASHA volunteers collected approximately 2,000 signatures of support for a hospice. A positive response and sound advice was received as we met with several of our local politicians at that time, including Stephen Kahn, MLA for St. Albert, Doug Horner, MLA for Spruce Grove/St Albert and Minister of Finance, Mayor Nolan Crouse with City of St Albert, and Mayor Tom Flynn with Sturgeon County. In addition, members of SASHA met with some of our community service groups to speak about our mission.
In October 2014, then Health Minister Stephen Mandel announced that Foyer Lacombe had been identified as a 22 bed facility suitable for a mix of hospice care and compatible long term care beds.
